The Saint Roque of Tarija/ BOLIVIA { 44 images } Created 27 Apr 2013
The feast of the patron saint of Tarija, San Roque, in southern Bolivia is
in their unique style on the national scene. In addition to the total absence of alcohol this party has no pre-Columbian roots. The "redskin", the main character of the party, does not have a face and represents the old leper who dress so as to recognize the signs of his illness was walking around town asking for charity.
There is no character more appropriate than this to honor a saint who dedicated his life to healing the lepers. "The redskins" are many and give the party a touch of color and lightness indelible. This commemoration is lived so intensely and so recognized in Bolivia that has been proclaimed religious and cultural heritage of the whole nation.
