An Italian law guarantees the reuse of the goods confiscated from the mafia people; the entire national territory is filled with properties ascribable and confiscated from owners belonging to the mafia organizations. Many properties are agricultural lands and civil or industrial buildings located in the historical mafia sites, as the hinterland of Palermo and the plain of Gioia Tauro, in Calabria. Since some years, in these areas were created agricultural - social cooperatives, which reuse the confiscated properties following the law. It is a new reality in areas where the Mafia had always reigned, it is a momentous change for people accostumed to live subjugated to the Mafia. A huge movement of the civil society supports these cooperatives in many different ways; every summer hundreds of people go to do volunteer work on the fields, meeting the people.
